Education of Austria

Austria, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research is responsible for the entire educational system, from early childhood education and primary schools to the Matura (higher education entrance examination), university colleges of teacher education and adult education. It aims to create the best possible environment for schools, universities and research institutions, and represents the interests of Austria as a location for science, research and business on the international stage.

• The Republic of Austria enjoys a free and public school system, with nine of years of mandatory education.
• Schools offer a series of vocational-technical and University tracks that involve one to four additional years of education beyond the minimum mandatory level.
